Crazy Lady

I am pretty sure these kiddos will just remember me as the crazy lady who comes  and makes them stand in crazy cold weather to get a photograph or two to document their birthday.  However, I know those same photographs are treasures to their mommy who has babies slipping away and little people replacing them. I know that as crazy as those 10 minutes can be in the cold that smile, or that certain look tells who they are in this moment.  If that is all they remember me for I am more okay with that.  I know I am capturing them in a moment that will not come back and making memories that will last.  I am very glad I get to be that crazy lady.

Perfect Mix

Ava in my opinion is a perfect mix of her mom and dad. I love getting to hang out with her and see glimpses of both of them.  A certain phrase, look, or smile just reminds me of one or the other.  Don’t get me wrong there is plenty that is all Ava.  She turned six this year.  I have been photographing her since she was a baby.  It’s hard to believe she is already that old. She is at a really fun age though.  She was full of ideas of where we should and what she should do.  She was full of giggles, smiles and the perfect serious look.  This amazing mix of her parents is turning into a pretty incredible girl blessed I get to capture her each year.

Sweet Family

Jeanella heard about me through a mutual friend. It happens to be a mutual friend we both adore.  This made for a fast and easy connection.  Through out our session I got to hear some of this family’s inspiring story.  I also was able to photograph two adorable girls.  I was a little nervous about a 8 month old, as you never know how they will do.  Miss Savannah was a rock star.  She smiled on cue almost every time.  She also decided to discover her tongue just in time for our session.  Valerie also did awesome.  I love this age they are full of life and loves and are willing to share with me what those are.  One of her very evident love was for her baby sister.  She adores her and the way Savannah lights ups when Valerie appears makes it known the feelings are mutual. As I walked about from our session I kept thinking what a sweet, sweet family and how blessed I was to be able to capture their family that day.

A Precious Family

The last time I photographed this family was 2.5 years ago.  As any family the boys have grown, but these boys have grown more then just in stature.  The last time we did a session they were new to America, new to a family, and  new to unconditional love.  They are now so full of joy, life, and love.  They are super sweet, extremely polite and just fun to be around.  They also will revile for some of the most handsome boys I get to photograph. This family is just precious!  I love watching adoption unfold.  I love watching a family become a family and knowing the hard work that went into getting to this point.  I love even more being able to capture them in photographs.

Final Piece

I meet Doug many years ago because a friend recommend him as a great chiropractor to try.  Over the 12 years I have known Doug he went from not only being my chiropractor (which he truly is an amazing one, just got voted Best Chiropractor in Shawnee, KS) to being a trust friend and often a much needed encourager.  Doug has watched my life transform from a single woman to a married one into motherhood, he has watch me walk through the transition from teacher to photographer and has been a listening ear, and support through all the many paths my life has taken.  I have also gotten to go through some of his journey in life as well.  The most exciting being his recent marriage to Tracy.  When he married Tracy he also gained two precious, sweet girls in his life.  I so enjoyed watching him with his ladies as we did our sessions.  He is over the moon about all three of them, and I think they think he is pretty okay as well.  It does my heart well to see him in love and apart of such a great family.  It’s like a final piece of a puzzle was filled in his life.

A Great Excuse

A photography session is often a good excuse to travel to Kansas City and see a friend.  This was one of those sessions.  Kristin and I have become friends over the last few years.  When I lived in KC we occasionally enjoyed playdates and kid free lunches.  I had not seen her in several months since I had moved.  So when she called to set up a session I was excited at a chance to photograph her beautiful family and a chance to catch up a little.

So much fun

I had so much fun doing Kailey’s senior portraits.  She is so easy going.  I particular liked she got my communication.  I could say a simple word like “whimsical” and she would go in a perfect pose. I have also failed to mention that she has such a striking beauty, not only on the outside but evident on the inside as well.   She braved some chilly weather to get some amazing photographs that I hope encapsulates all that Kailey is.  It was definitely a fun session to be apart of!

Smitten

Raleigh is smitten with her new baby sister Reaghan.  She was full of ideas she would love to do with her sister.  Even though Reaghan has a few years to grow before she can also enjoy all her big sister has planned, I know eventually she will be following her around as younger siblings often do.  Reaghan was alert for most of our session, and even flashed her sweet dimple filled smile. These girls were a delight to photograph, it’s easy to see why their mommy is smitten with both of them.  They are darling!

Some obstacles

When you are faced with multiple obstacles during a session what do you do?   Keep going.  That is how this session went.  It is possible that we should have quit much sooner then we did.  I am so glad we didn’t as  I was able to capture some of the cutest photographs of these sweet girls.  I am so glad their mom trusted me when I said let’s keep trying.  I do know this session will go as “remember when” kind of moments but I appreciate that will be followed by a laugh.  Life is so often memories in the making, and photography is catching those moments, so honored to catch those memories in Lilly and Layla’s life.

A Colorado Wedding

I was so excited when Brandon and Laura asked us to photograph their Colorado wedding.  It wasn’t only because Colorado is one of my very favorite places to visit but Laura holds a dear place in my heart.  I was so glad to be able to be there on her very special day. They had a perfect fall day for their wedding. Their wedding was small, which made it  a nice, intimate setting.  Laura’s dress was magnificent.  I loved the how Brandon’s suspenders and bow-toe easily demonstrated  Brandon’s natural personality.  The whole day was relaxed and about enjoying the people we were their to celebrate. It’s always an honor tell the wedding day story for a great couple.
