Surprise

I was able to pull of the biggest surprise of my life a few weeks back. I surprised my husband Jon with coordinating his best friend and his family to fly in for Jon’s ordination. It was awesome to see disbelief and joy on his face. He has not seen his best friend (or his family) for 4 years. In that 4 years we have added 4 children among the two families. It was exciting to finally have everyone together. Since both of these little girls have been born, I have been dying to photograph their beautiful blue eyes and precious smiles. I was glad when they agree to let me. It was a fun morning of getting to know each of them that much better. The whole weekend was so enjoyable and makes our hearts miss them even more in their absence. I am praying it won’t be another 4 years until I get to capture them again and hug their necks. We love them dearly!

I have been photographing Shawna for the last 4 plus years. I enjoy getting to see her every few years as we do family photographs. I was excited when they asked me to do her senior portraits. At first, my response was surely she can’t be a senior! It’s okay, I think her mom is in denial as well. It’s amazing to watch a girl grow up through my lens, and grown up she has. She has grown into a gorgeous young lady! I am pretty sure we couldn’t take a bad photograph that day. Shawna was a natural and I love her no fuss, easy going way. I think the photos speak for themselves but in case you missed my opinion she is GORGEOUS!

Love this Family

This family has a very special place in my heart. These girls are my kids best buddies, still not certain by choice or force but best buddies they are. Their mommy is one of my dearest friends. I love getting to capture them in my camera. This year was no different. I love getting those moments to interact with them drawing out bits of what makes them, them. I love being reminded how well God did on creating the beauty of each one. How special He made this family He designed. Pure Joy

This little boy is a delight to his family. His big smile can light up a room. It is fun to watch his mind figuring things out. It was so much fun to take some time and capture Josiah at 6 months. It seems like those 6 months have flown by, I know they have for his mommy and daddy. My favorite part of this session was watching his mommy and daddy though. They love this boy fiercely and it’s easy to tell he brings them pure joy.

Expressions of Love

You can easily see it. The expression of love this family gives. You might catch a glimpse of it when the two girls are interacting. You can hear it when their daddy tells them countless times in different ways how beautiful his girls are. You can see it in the joy and interaction that is a natural rhythm to this family. This family has a way of making expressing love seem effortless and it was my honor to capture them.

Love on The Plaza

I love The Plaza in Kansas City. It’s always full of life. When Amelia suggested it as the place to take their engagement photographs I was more then happy to take them there. However, I quickly found out that The Plaza was much more then a fun destination location for this couple. They meet at Seasons 52 for their first date that ended up lasting for hours walking around The Plaza. They spent most of their date night falling in love at The Plaza as it was the perfect mid way point for them to meet. It was en lighting to walk around with them and they would share why different spot where so special to them. The Plaza became much more then a pretty backdrop for this engagement session but more a capturing of many memories of them falling in love. It was my honor to capture those moments.

Laughter

I have gotten to know Jenni because she is the fearless leader of the MOPS group I am apart of. (Which by the way is an amazing national program for Mother’s Of Preschoolers that I highly recommend! http://www.mops.org/) Jenni approached me taking some fall photos of her kiddos which I was more than happy to do but quickly told her we would be making it a family session. I firmly believe in family sessions and the importance of documenting you as a family. I am so glad I talked her into it. As you can see from the photographs this family loves to laugh. I love being around and photographing a laughing family. I think laughing brings a family closer, and shows an obvious bond. I came across this quote and liked and felt it fit this family.

Fall

When Lindsay approached me about doing family photographs she was sure of one thing, she wanted fall leaves. We tentatively planned a date that we thought the leaves would be in their prime. Well as that date approached it was evident the leaves just weren’t ready. We pushed the date back a couple of weeks. I am not sure if I have ever analyzed the leaves as much as I have in the last few weeks. I wanted the leaves to look beautiful but also didn’t want to miss the window for them either. As our session approached the leaves began to cooperate which I was relieved. However, the session happen to be on the coldest day we had this fall so far. The family was awesome and endured the cold to get some beautiful family photos. It was worth the wait to have the colors of fall gracing the family in the background.

Paths Have Crossed

I have had the privilege to get to know the Thomson family since Chris came on staff at the same church as my husband. We both have migrated from Kansas City so we easily bonded over important things we missed like Chick-fil-a and Quick Trip. We also have realized several small world moments of knowing the same people. Their children have been particular sweet to my kids which I always appreciate. They are an easy family to get to know and enjoy being around. I am glad their paths have crossed ours.

A Love Story

I love that this love story is 10 years in the making. I love that this love story includes 4 beautiful children. I love that this love story includes authenticity. Tim and Brittany would the first to tell you that it’s not been easy, it’s not all roses and fairy dust but it’s worth it. Their love story involves moves, job changes, career changes and lots of laughs, heart and sacrifice. Their story involves surrendering daily to God. They are willing to do the hard part of working on marriage so they can have a day to celebrate 10 years. These are the love story I truly love.
