Snowed In

So what does one do when they are snowed in for a better part of a week with a 17 month old?  Well, when you are a photographer you grab your camera and work on some photography skills.  I am not sure if Alea was happy about being a subject especially when I kept trying to keep her in certain light however she was a pretty good sport about it.  I am always trying to challenge my skills especially when understanding light.  I took the opportunity to enjoy the amazing light the snow was casting into the window.

Boys will be boys

I am amazed over and over again how a boy simply knows things.  A boy knows how to make car sounds, play ninja, and create a gun out of anything.  They need no prompting from mom and dad.  This would be the case with Hudson.  A innocent stick was laying on the ground and he in his two year old little boy brain saw a gun.  Boys will be boys!

New life

Typically when I have the oppourunity to photograph new life it’s a newborn baby human, however last week I was priveleged to see a newborn baby cow.  The baby cow was only two hours old.  I was able to observe the new little guy at Deanna Rose, a local park in Kansas City.  It was so neat to watch the mom take care of her young.  The baby cow was trying to find his bearnings and was stumbling trying to walk.  It was an amazing sight to see.

Some days are like that…

My favorite children’s book is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst.

I love this book because we all have bad days, and it seems like on those days things just get worst.  I think this photo depicts  a day like that.  As Alexander says in the book “some days are like that”

Purse Swap

I had the opportunity to photograph some beautiful woman.  They all participated in a Purse Swap.  The purse swap is when you bring all of your purses you are no longer using and trade them for purses other ladies are no longer using.  I think it’s a genius idea, and a great way to stay trendy without breaking the bank.  As part of the purse swap I got to photograph these gorgeous woman.  Here are some of my favorites.

Nature

I have come to learn that photographing nature expands my ability to photograph people.  It is a different skill set that makes a great nature photograph.  I have come across a variety of photographers that create amazing landscape but have no interested in people.  I have found that nature challenges you to look at angles differently.  It challenges to make the ordinary look extraordinary.  It allows your mind to work in a different way.  I think those skills and challenges that nature lends it’s self to allows me to be a better portrait photographer.  I appreciate the chances I get to play with my camera and push myself to something different then I have always done.  I had that chance on a recent trip to California.  We visited a Botanical Garden.  Here are a few of the photographs that I captured.
